Shadows and Ghosts

I live in a single-family ranch home in Mundelein, Illinois. The home was built in the 1940s and is in an older community. It first started about August, 2007. My two children and I came home from a day out, and I noticed that a cross that I had nailed up in between my bathroom and my bedroom had fallen off the wall. Let me make it clear that there is no way that the cross could have fallen off by itself. Anyway, I dismissed it as a fluke and went about my business.
About two weeks later, I was coming around the corner of my kitchen from the hallway and saw the cabinet close out of the corner of my eye. You know the sound that a door makes when it is pushed hard and kind of bounces until it comes to a stop? Well, I heard that too. I again dismissed it as a fluke.
Approximately another two weeks passed and I was lying on my side in my bed trying to get some sleep. All of the bedroom doors were closed and there were no lights on in the hallway and no one was home. My house is set up so when all the doors to the bedrooms are closed, there is NO light that comes through into the hallway. I got a feeling that someone was watching me and I sat up. I saw a "shadow" of a person slowly moving down my hallway. How can there be a shadow if there is no light? This I did not dismiss!! I must say that it really freaked me out.
Some more time passed and I experienced "orbs" (for lack of a better word) in my hallway. A couple more days passed and I didn't tell anyone what happened. One morning I woke my 11-year-old daughter up for school and the first words out of her mouth were, "Nice try mom." I asked what she was talking about and she replied, "I know you were trying to scare me. You had on a white dress with little buttons that went all the way down and the dress looked old and ripped and you were standing in my doorway looking at me. I called for you but you didn't answer. Instead you just walked into Antonio's [her little brother] room. After that I put the covers over my head."
All the hairs on my body stood up. I told her she must have been sleeping and she replied that she was wide awake. She was insistent on that fact. I told her that I didn't own a dress like and we both freaked out. I had a friend of mine come in and bless the house. It's been about 7 months and we haven't experienced anything else.
