Bizarre Apple Tree Incident

This interesting little story happened in either the spring or summer of 1949, when my father was 14 or 15 years of age.
My father used to venture to a sparsely treed woodland somewhere behind the street in the village in North Wales, United Kingdom, where he lived in throughout his youth. This woodland was a fairly popular retreat and adventure area for the other children who lived in the same and nearby streets as my father, and a few of his very close friends frequently visited the same spots as he.
One day he happened to be standing close to a single wild apple tree (a rare thing) somewhere deep inside this wood, when he suddenly noticed what looked like a man wearing brown corduroy trousers going quickly on his hands and knees around the wild apple tree, then disappearing after making a half-circle around the tree. He said he didn't notice the front or head of this "man" because it moved so quickly, but only saw what looked like the brown trousers.
When my father got back home, he told his father of this amazing incident, but his father did not believe him and insisted that he had been daydreaming.
Several weeks later, however, my father and two friends of his -- a boy and a girl -- came with him for a walk to the wood, and the trio happened to be passing the wild apple tree where my father had had his vision. Then, the girl (Nancy) became startled. Asked what was the matter, she answered that she had seen something that scared her. My father, remembering his earlier sighting, then asked Nancy if what she saw was a man wearing brown corduroy trousers going on his hands and knees around the wild apple tree and then disappearing, and the girl said, "Yes," in a very frightened tone. He then explained to her that he had seen just the same thing only weeks previously.
