Manteca Chupacabras
by Phillip Mackey
I think I saw the chupacabras. It happened in 1984 back when I lived in Manteca, California. I was working the swing shift one day when we soon took a break around 4:00 in the afternoon. I was outside the building washing down some debris into a drain when I looked across this empty lot toward a telephone pole where I could see a big strange-looking dog with his leg up leaving his mark. When it finished, it started walking toward where I was.
This was no dog! It had red eyes, big teeth, spiky matted hair on the top of its head. Half of its body was like a dirty orange color, the other half was dark with blue markings. It had a long white tail and on its face around the mouth was blood -- at least it looked like blood. This was a nasty, scary looking thing!
As it got closer, I went back inside to tell my co-workers, but couldn't find anyone! Everyone was gone! Turns out they all went to the break room. So while I waited for them to get back, I decided to take a look outside to see where this creature was, and as I approached the door I could hear a lot of banging and scratching noises coming from the other side. This thing was trying to get in! I wasn't about to stick around, so I took off and joined my co-workers at the break room where I told them about the dog from hell. They believed me and were a little cautious when we returned to our workplace. Me, my friend James and our supervisor went outside and looked all around for this thing, but we found nothing. There was a lingering foul odor that almost made me sick, and there were scratches on the door!
